Another cupcake update. <3
Made these for a show opening. Orange chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and vanilla custard in the middle.
Recipe inspiration here: http://www.emilybites.com/2013/01/dark-chocolate-orange-cupcakes.html
(neat trick: apple sauce is a great egg replacement!!!)
Two more posts until I’m up to date with my cupcake projects! Here are some winged light bulbs.
(Made for another opening night of a show.) I tend to feed my coworkers my experiments…mwahaha. The show itself had this awesome chandelier made of cute little winged light bulbs. Inspiration!
Again, more fondant work. Indents with the tip of a knife. The silver is color mist. For reference, color mist is really cool…but you have to be careful with the darker colors because they will stain hands a little bit!
Be free little light bulbs! Be freeeee!
Here is my first experiment using fondant! I made it from scratch with sugar and marshmallows. It’s pretty neat stuff…you can dye it with icing color and it stays soft long enough to make intricate designs.
Seen here are goldfish cupcakes that I made for the opening night of a show called I, Claudia. There were live goldfish onstage (which I eventually adopted) and I thought that made a great cupcake theme. <3
Dyed and modeled by hand. Scales and fin design made with the tip of a knife. The bubbles and writing are made from simple decorating icing.
(I realized after making this how subliminal Homestuck has become in my daily thinking.)
…Glub.
Some cupcakes from the holiday season. The image quality isn’t the best for some reason. Oh well.
The first pic is an awesome cupcake fail. Like the batter wanted freedom and tried to hop the fence. You get a special icing job, Freedom Cupcake!
Over the past couple of months I’ve been leisurely teaching myself some cupcake decorating techniques in order to complete a project that’s been on my mind for a while.
My teachings generally turned into experimental projects that, from time to time, turned out pretty swell!
I’ve been serving up said cupcake challenges to my coworkers roughly once a month so I thought I might start posting some of them here. :D
Although I have completed the larger project that all of this spawned from, I thought chronologically speaking I might as well start at the beginning!
Here are some Halloween and er…springtime(?) cupcakes. For the Halloween ones I was playing around with ColorMist and duel colored icing. The springtime cupcakes were an experiment for different icing tips.
